The Gospel of Christ
- To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ (Ephesians 3:8)
– The Gospel of Christ explains how fallen, sinful individuals can be reconciled to a perfect and just eternal God.
Have you ever been disrespectful, lied, stolen, cheated, used the Lord’s name in vain, hated, lusted, coveted, fornicated, been prideful? Likely so, as the Bible says that we are all sinners (Rom. 3:23). This means that we have all offended God and broken His law. Because of this, we are separated from God (Isaiah 59:2), are dead in our sins (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:3), cannot please God (Rom. 3:10-11), and will suffer eternal damnation (2 Thess. 1:9). In God’s infinite love, He made a way for you to be pardoned of all sin. Only by receiving Christ and trusting in what Jesus did on the cross can you avoid God’s wrath. (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Pet. 2:24).
Since we are sinners, we are incapable of removing the guilt of our sinfulness through our own efforts. Gal. 2:21 says, “…if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.” Since we cannot remove our own sins, God must do it. He sent His Son as the perfect sacrifice.
Jesus, who is God in flesh (John 1:1,14; 8:58; Col. 2:9), bore our sins in His body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24). He died in our place. He paid the penalty of breaking the Law of God that should have fallen upon us. He satisfied the law of God the Father by dying on the cross.
It is only through Jesus that we can escape the penalty that God will execute upon all who have broken His holy and perfect law. Do you want to be saved from the righteous judgment of God? If so, then look to Jesus who died on the cross; put all of your faith and trust in Him. Your works and effort amount to nothing in salvation.
I know that there are people reading this who are not trusting Jesus Christ, and therefore can only expect condemnation. So I’m just going to plead with you here at the end, lay down that rebellion. Lay it down. And simply embrace the gospel that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Righteous One, died for your sins. He was raised on the third day, triumphant over all his enemies. He reigns until he puts all of his enemies under his feet. Forgiveness of sins and a right standing with God comes freely through Jesus alone, by faith alone.
I plead with you, don’t try to be strong in your own strength; it will not be there when you need it. Only one strength will be there—the strength that God gives according to the gospel.
Don’t put it off. Simply ask for His forgiveness and be honest with Him:
“Lord Jesus. I come to you and confess that I am a sinner, that I have thought and done wrong, and have offended your Holy Word. Please forgive me of my sins. I trust in what you have done for me on the cross and I receive you. Please cleanse me of my sin and be the Lord of my life. I trust you completely for the forgiveness of my sins and put no trust in my own efforts of righteousness. Lord Jesus, please save me.”
